Elevate Yourself…

Leadership in the public, private and church arenas has been in the news rather a lot lately and frankly, it’s in significant need of elevation! The terms ‘hostile’, ‘deluded’, ‘unhealthy’, ‘lacking accountability’, ‘deeply troubled’, ‘dishonest’, ‘destructive’, ‘deceitful’, are now too readily associated with leaders and leadership. 

Having recently journeyed through Lent followed by Easter, a season that calls for deep reflection, fasting and necessary pause before the inevitability of death, we have been reminded that we all carry ‘stuff’ that at some point needs to be soundly nailed to the cross.  This is necessary, at every stage of our development, particularly if we are to avoid toxicity in leadership and become the more human and compassionate leaders God is calling us to be.  The cross is (at the very least) a reminder that endings are a necessary part of new beginnings.

Thankfully, it’s not all about nailing ‘stuff’, the truth about Jesus’ resurrection means there’s also ‘raising’ to be done too.  We’re in awe that the power that raised Jesus from the dead is literally at work within us.  This realisation should fuel an expectation for ‘impossible’ breakthroughs, fresh perspectives, transformation, renewing of minds and, of course, ground-breaking seasons full of surprises!
